WSET Level 1 Award in Wines

This hands-on introduction to the world of wine is ideal for beginners and covers the basic styles of wine, main grape varieties, how to store and serve wine correctly, and how to pair food and wine successfully. The course makes an ideal gift for a friend or family member with an interest in wine.

Programme Outline

The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines course programme is as follows:

  • The main styles of wine
  • The WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine
  • The characteristics of the common grape varieties used to produce wine
  • Service and storage of wine
  • Food and wine pairing

This is a really fun day-long course and is run by a WSET Certified Wine Educator. You will be given the WSET Level 1 study book containing everything you need to know and we supply the wines that you will be tasting.

To gain the qualification, students need to pass a multiple choice paper of 30 questions.

The price includes wine samples, study guide, tuition & exam.

We are also able to quote on prices excluding wine, so that you can provide your own wine, from your own wine supplier. Please let us know your requirements and we can send you a quote.

FAQs

I’m still at school, can I do this course?

Yes, as long as you’re over the age of 18 years (at the start of the course), you don’t need any prior knowledge in wine for Level 1. It is a fantastic course for any school leaver looking to take a gap year and work in a bar, pub, restaurant or even a ski chalet!

Is this qualification recognised outside the UK?

Yes, all 9 WSET qualifications are globally recognised. So, if you’re planning on working abroad in the wine or hospitality industry, your WSET qualification will be recognised and will add gravitas to your CV!

How soon will I get my results?

WSET should issue your results for Level 1 30 working days after receipt of the exam papers being returned to them.

Will I get my certificate and pin at the end of the course?

No, once you have completed your course your examination papers will be sent to WSET. WSET should send Wineology your pins and certificates within 50 working days from when they receive it. Wineology will then send the certificates and pins directly to you.

Does the certification expire?

No, once you have the qualification, you have it for life!

Can my employer pay for my course?

Yes, many employers sponsor their staff through WSET training. This is a great way to support career development and encourage staff retention.
